Innovation, collaboration, and the future of connected engineering—this year’s Taipuva Polarion Days was more than just an event; it was a meeting point for visionaries, process experts, and industry leaders. From groundbreaking AI applications to success stories of digital transformation, attendees gained fresh insights, practical strategies, and a glimpse into the latest advancements in Polarion. Read on to discover the key takeaways!

Polarion – The All-in-One Solution

Pasi Syvänen from Grundium, a Finnish company that designs and manufactures digital microscope scanners for pathology, shared how they’ve transformed their operations using Polarion. Moving away from scattered tools like Trello and MS Office, Grundium now relies on Polarion to centralise and streamline processes across R&D, quality and information system management, supplier management, and even manufacturing.

”We can find everything in Polarion. With all your data in one place, it’s always accessible and fast to find. Unlike multiple tools, where a deleted list is lost for good, that’s not the case in Polarion,” Pasi explained.

”We use Polarion for much more than just process management – it helps us collect feedback, write specifications, manage implementations, and handle customer returns and defects.”

“Like a Swiss Army Knife”

When asked about his key takeaway, Pasi shared:

”Having everything in one platform is far more advantageous than using separate tools – in that way, Polarion is like a Swiss Army knife.”

This also means that Grundium can continue building processes on the same platform, if there are new needs emerging. Their principle is to centralise all data and processes in Polarion, which is easily facilitated by customising workflows and having documents with e-signatures, when such are required.

Exploring Possibilities with AI and More

Tommi Heinonen showcased how AI is transforming industries far beyond the tech sector. From refining coffee blends to reshaping financial services, AI has vast potential across various sectors.

”You don’t need a specialised AI team or a large budget to get started. The key is identifying the problem where AI can make a difference. Ask yourself: Where are we losing time? Or where are we losing customers?”

Stephanos Kythreotis and Tarbiya Khanam from Vattenfall shared how the company leverages Polarion in its offshore wind business to streamline the entire process—from gathering internal requirements and integrating them into wind park procurement to coordinating with suppliers and managing the full project lifecycle. They emphasized that adopting Polarion early in the process is key to maintaining quality and ensuring seamless scalability across operations.

Jussi Paasisalo from Clevr, Eero Niemi from Taipuva, Kimmo Törmälehto from Murata Electronics, and Kristiina Vikström from ABB presented how Polarion improves collaboration and traceability across organisational boundaries such as product development, product management and verification & validation. Kimmo’s presentation covered some interesting details of the way they specify precise performance requirements and how they close the loop by measuring verification results, bring them into Polarion and track against the requirements.

Krista Puustelli and Päivi Kaste from Patria highlighted how robust requirement management can drive efficiency and provide companies with a competitive advantage.

“At Patria, we’ve shifted from creating customer-specific solutions (engineer-to-order) to a more standardised approach with Configure-to-order. We now focus on designing, engineering, and managing products that can be sold, sourced, and delivered on time,” said Krista Puustelli.
